WHO IS THE BRIT?
My name is Dominic Newbold. I was born in Winchester in the UK where I grew up playing rugby, competing in athletics and swimming, as well as becoming a swimming coach during my teenage years.
I moved to Amsterdam when I was 19 to study physiotherapy and through my studies I was able to build upon my existing knowledge of anatomy, bio-mechanics, physiology and exercise techniques.
During an internship I got a job working as a fitness instructor in a gym, and noticed that there was a real lack of knowledge from the trainers about how the body responds to exercise, both short and long term. This motivated me to become an NSCA certified personal trainer and apply the detailed knowledge I had gained at university to training clients in the gym.
Whilst studying for my personal training certificate, I realised that I was much happier in the gym than I was at university. After months of internal debate I made the decision to leave university and work in fitness full time, establishing The Brit in 2019.
